 Is that a Taizé thing or do they have responsibles for everything in all communities? We discussed this question a lot. Out society tries to educate responsible persons but in Taizé you're not just responsible, in some cases you are even promoted to be the responsible for a certain task or team. And there are responsibilities for everything.
When we had the brothers as guests two girls were appointed to decorate the room. Someone was responsible to fetch the food and there was a responsible to bring it back. One for boiling water after the meal, one for bringing back the empty glass of jam the brothers had brought us.
If you wanna do something right, you will go through the whole chain of responsibilities in whatever you do. You don't just take a piece of wood to repair a bookshelf. You make contact with the Lamba responsible sister who will contact the Cadolle responsible brother, he will delegate the task to the Cadolle responsible boy who might contact you to check back with the Cadolle resposible brother that will then ask for mesurements. This request will be brought to you by the Lamba responsible sister who will have cleared everything with the Cadolle responsible brother and advise you to start working with the Cadolle responsible boy who would prefer if you worked this all out with the wood responsbile sister who in fact is not responsible for Lamba bookshelves but for Ameugny fire wood.
Once you've solved all this you will wish for a responsible for the electric drill because you could start working if it had not been lost.
But things are well organized in Taize. And that is really good because hardly ever someone comes asking could you just help out here or could you just do that because everyone pulls their load and every task has its responsible. And if not, the sisters don't hesitate to appoint one. There are just some things they forgot in Lamba so far...
