#1 Know your job.
Some of the guys that come to help us might have never cleaned a toilet before so we have to explain them. And we need to keep the people from doing a big mess in our place. That"s why a good and systematic organisation of the work in necessary.
#2 Know your team members.
Teamwork is the name of the game in Point 5 because no one can do everything alone here. We have to see that the work is done in the best way and give each other a hand when needed. It is important to be attentive to the team members, to know about their strengths and weaknesses in order give support in a constructive way.
#3 Keep the team informed.
Everyone needs to know what"s going on, this encourages team work. We should keep the whole team informed about what we are doing in how and the Queen needs to pass information in order to avoid confusion.
#4 Set the example.
We are the link between the job that had to be done and the people that are going to do it. It might be necessary to show our own enthusiam for this to keep the people in the teams motivated and convinced of the tasks. But also among the responsibles an exemplary conduct is necessary since every princess and every cleaning team responsible usually learns by watching and doing.
We need to be positive in our actions instead of working half-heardly just because it says "Point 5" on our working lists.
#5 Ensure the task is understood and done.
For us it might be the 20th time to give the toilet cleaning explanation but for the people it is the first one. We should not confuse them too much. Keep it simple. We do not supervise them all along the way but we should not let them alone either but ensure that they do their job preperly.
#6 Transmit a feeling of community.
Some jobs seem to be useless but we have to poin tout that they are all part of the life herer and that also rubbish picking must be done, even if it doesn"t see,s as important as cleaning toilets. Always prepare more work than you have teams to show that there is something to do for everybody.
#7 Develop a sense of responsibility in the people.
We mus make clear to the people that we expect them to take responsibility for getting the job done properly and taking care of the material. They must understand that they are responsible for their share of work in the community life and for the community life itself because they are part of it. If we see that people take charge, we can give them responsibilities for more people or bigger areas.
#8 Employ the teams according to their capabilities.
We have to find a balance between getting a task done in an efficient way and giving the team the feeling of being helpful. Sending too few people to do a job will discourage them and they won"t come back. Sending too many makes them feel useless and they won"t come back either.
#9 Make the people feel special.
Even though there might be one hundred people coming for work, try to get in contact with them. Already asking for their names and wehre they are from can give them a good feeling. We are not standing at an assembly line but we have to deal with the people in a personal way. For us it is one week in many, but they might remember the work they did during their week in Taize for a very long time.
#10 Enjoy your work!
The only real desaster that can happen is that the team doesn't show up and nothing is done. For most of the other things Cadolle is responsible. Always look on the bright side of Point 5.
